Defendant was charged with two counts of first degree murder (Pen. Code, § 187),*fn1 one count of robbery (§ 211), and one count of attempted robbery (§§ 211, 664). Each of the two murder counts was accompanied by a special circumstance finding of robbery murder (§ 190.2, subd. (a)(17)(i)) and multiple murder (§ 190.2, subd. (a)(3)), and in each of the four counts it was found that defendant used a firearm within the meaning of sections 12022.5 and 1203.06, subdivision (a)(1). This appeal under the 1978 death penalty law is automatic. (§ 1239, subd. (b).) Because the trial court failed to hold a competency hearing pursuant to section 1368 after specifically ordering one,*fn2 the entire judgment must be reversed.
